A Bridge Too Far is
about community process in the age of e-mail trees and
digital cameras, the era of mega-cities, and a time
of growing concern about political accountability and
the possibility for local democracy.
This fly-on-the-wall documentary chronicles
the fight to stop the building of a bridge across a
narrow channel along Toronto's waterfront to what is
today a small airport. It begins with Toronto's City
Council vote in 2002 to approve this bridge despite
community concerns about the potential for the expansion
of airport operations. While an economic necessity for
the airport, how will the bridge and the expanded airport
it creates, affect the waterfront community's environment,
health, safety and viability?
It's a David and Goliath story,
following seasoned and novice activists whose stories
illustrate the power of community resistance and action,
With footage of charged council debates, protests and
community meetings, A Bridge Too Far accesses
the very heart of the issue - the people and their passion
for justice.
