Museum Maestros

Broadcaster – Bravo!, CLT, SCN and Knowledge Network

Museum Maestros, an arts documentary, follows internationally acclaimed museum experts, Gail Dexter Lord and Barry Lord, as they guide viewers through the ins-and-outs of museums and exhibits from around the globe.

This quirky and dynamic pair of unlikely cultural heroes are leading a revolution in the museum world on a global scale. The Lords’ personal experiences as art critics and political activists in the 1960s and 70s provides the inspiration for their museum planning. Over the years, they have conformed to establish credibility; however, they have never relinquished their desire to create a more just and equitable world. For them, museums have become the vehicle for cultural and political change.

We follow the maestros as they take us behind the scenes to The World Trade Center Memorial in New York City, the Museum of African Diaspora in San Francisco, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg and show us the their unique approach to museum creation through their massive cultural endeavor in Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi.

The Lords are energetic, thoughtful, and a breath of fresh air in the often stale world of museums. Their insight into how culture and identity are shaping museum projects around the world is not only enlightening but highly amusing and always entertaining.
