Funders: Blue Cross, OMDC, and NFB

This was CineFocus Canada’s first broadcast documentary. It was released in 1991 in response to the growing health care crisis in Canada. It lead to numerous commissioned videos with clients like Health Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Social and Community Services, and the Association of Ontario Health Centres and several of its member centres.

The film begins with the roots of Medicare in Saskatchewan and then explores three cities in Canada (Sault Ste. Marie and London, Ontario and Victoria, British Columbia) where communities are shifting the focus from doctors and hospitals to more cost-effective and healthier alternatives.
